Selecting the perfect shoes for your children can raise a few challenges along the way, especially if you're navigating this experience for the first time. No worries, here are a few tips that we’re happy to share with you and which we swear by. We promise you will choose right; also, remember that you are doing great.

  • Infants (under 10-11 months)

If your baby isn’t walking yet, it's best to let them be barefoot to promote their natural foot development. But if protection from the cold is the case, we recommend you opt for soft, flexible footwear made from natural materials like textile, wool, or leather. At this stage, the primary need is simply protecting their precious feet from harsh weather.

  • Early walkers (1-3 months of walking)

Continuing the practice of barefoot walking is beneficial. Yes, even at this stage. When the surfaces are safe, allow them to walk barefoot outdoors as well. Direct contact with various surfaces aids in balance control and sensory development. Just as toes are crucial for gripping, they also help toddlers sense and adapt to different grounds. Restrictive footwear can hinder this natural learning process. For times when shoes are necessary, choose flexible, minimalist footwear, with up to 3mm sole thickness. They all support natural movement without restricting their delicate feet.

  • Confident walkers

Once your child walks steadily and confidently, you might consider shoes that offer more protection, yet maintain flexibility and lightness. Go for shoes with thin soles, approximately 4-5mm thick, to make sure they are supple enough to allow for easy movement and provide an anatomical fit that accommodates growing toes comfortably.

  • Indoor use (kindergarten or home)

For inside adventures, it’s important to avoid regular shoes or boots for indoor use. Children’s active circulation means their feet need to breathe to prevent sweating and discomfort.

We hope these guidelines help you make informed choices about your child's footwear. Remember, the right shoes can make a significant difference in your child's comfort and development. If you have any questions or need further advice, feel free to reach out. Lang.S is here for you.
